Despite their various activities, the United States government identified their importance in drug trafficking, offering up to $20 million as a reward for their capture. In 2021, President Joe Biden signed an executive order as part of a strategy to dismantle organized crime, including the Guzmán Salazar and Guzmán López brothers. Five million dollars are being offered for information leading to their arrest or whereabouts, according to Infobae.

Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar is often identified as the heir to the El Chapo drug empire. That is why his nickname is «King of Cocaine» or simply El Chapito. According to the US State Department, Archivaldo helped move drugs from South and Central America to Mexico and the United States.

With his brother Joaquín, he established fentanyl laboratories in Culiacán. In addition, both expanded their operations by sea and air, as well as through tunnels at border crossings. He is also in charge of giving bribes to state officials, according to Omnia.

Ovidio Guzman Lopez, or, «El Ratón»,  is perhaps the most prominent figure among the Chapitos, after his face went viral in the media in 2019, when he was arrested and then released. He is accused by the United States government of allegedly ordering the murder of a singer for refusing to sing at his wedding according to Omnia.

Meanwhile, Joaquín Guzmán is perhaps the least known of El Chapo’s sons. He also goes by the nickname «Guero Moreno». After the death of their brother Edgar Guzmán López, they inherited the power and profits of the criminal enterprise. Together they formed their own cell, known as the Guzmán-López Transnational Criminal Organization, although they are not separate from the Sinaloa Cartel. The Guzmán López brothers are said to be responsible for some 11 drug laboratories in Sinaloa, which are estimated to produce between 1,300 and 2,200 kilograms of methamphetamine per month. The drug is sold wholesale to distributors in other countries, such as Canada and the United States, as well as to other members of the Sinaloa Cartel. Among its other activities is the export of ephedrine from Argentina. According to US authorities, the two brothers invested millions of dollars to buy cocaine in Colombia and traffic it around the world.
