Just in case it wasn’t on your calendar, Sunday, April 7, is National Beer Day in the United States.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Cullen-Harrison Act into law on March 22, 1933, inspiring the celebration nearly a century ago.

Micheladas are a refreshing and popular beverage

Before diving these delicious micheladas recipes, let’s delve into the origins of this beloved drink.

Believed to have originated in Mexico, the name ‘michelada’ is thought to be a blend of the phrase «mi chela helada» (my cold beer).

They were invented sometime between the 60s and 70s.

This drink has since become a favorite across various regions of Mexico, particularly on warm days.

Michelada with a Cuban twist

To prepare a Cuban-Style Michelada, you’ll need: lemons, chili powder, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, Maggi sauce and Tabasco sauce.

You will also need coarse salt, a bottle of light beer and a slice of green lemon for garnish.

First, invert the glass onto a plate with lemon slices to moisten the rim with lemon juice, then dip in chili powder.

Add lemon juice to the glass, followed by the three sauces and a pinch of salt. Stir, pour in the beer and garnish as desired.

A perfect mix

The Gomichela is among the best michelada recipes for celebrating National Beer Day.

In addition to the standard ingredients, add chamoy, oranges, spicy gummy candies and sweet gummies.

Moisten the rim of the glass with liquid chamoy and dust with sweet chili powder.

Add lemon juice, then chamoy and the sauces before mixing. Pour in the beer and decorate to your liking.

Michelada with beef broth?

This surprising michelada recipe includes beef broth.

You’ll need a light beer, a can of beef broth, lemons, salt, ice, Maggi juice and Worcestershire sauce.

Start by adding ice to a tall glass, followed by Maggi juice and Worcestershire sauce.

Then, add the beef broth, pour in the beer, and top up as you drink.

A Puerto Vallarta style refresher

Last on our list of michelada recipes is Puerto Vallarta-Style.

According to Cookpad, you need a beer, lemon, salt, Tajín, Maggi sauce to taste and ice. Add cucumbers, tamarind candy and shrimp for garnish.

In a glass, combine salt and lemon juice, a splash of Maggi and Tajín sauce until the base is thoroughly coated.

Finally, add beer and ice as desired. Cap the glass and garnish to your preference for a distinctly unique refresher.
