  • FDA orders urgent recall at Walmart.
  • Product contains undeclared allergens.
  • Risk of severe allergic reaction.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an urgent alert regarding a food item distributed at several Walmart stores and other retail locations.

The FDA is advising consumers to remove from their homes a product that, despite its popularity, poses a significant health risk.

The FDA has identified that Atawer brand «Spider Web Tarts» contain undeclared ingredients that could trigger severe reactions in people with food allergies.

The recall specifically affects lots distributed on October 19 and 20, 2024, in the Maryland, Washington D.C., and Virginia areas.

The affected areas include Arlington Courthouse, Falls Church, H Street, Mount Pleasant, Silver Spring, Dupont Circle, Greenbelt, and Westover, according to Mundo Deportivo.

This product, manufactured by One Roof, LLC, contains almond flour, a dangerous allergen for those with nut allergies.

The FDA expressed concern because the company failed to include this information on the product labels, constituting a serious violation of food safety regulations.

In a statement, the FDA warned that anyone with an allergy who consumes these tarts could experience a severe or even fatal allergic reaction.

So far, there have been no reported cases of illness from consuming these tarts. However, the FDA emphasizes that the labeling omission puts consumers at risk.

The recalled product comes in a clear plastic container, known as a «clam shell,» with a green label reading «Spider Web Tart» by Atawer.

The FDA urges consumers who have purchased this product not to consume it and instead return it to the point of purchase for a refund.

This case serves as a clear warning to food companies about the importance of complying with labeling and production regulations, especially concerning allergens.

Food safety specialists highlight that undeclared ingredients not only violate regulations but also pose a public health risk.

The FDA stressed that all food companies are required to follow strict protocols to protect consumers, particularly those with health conditions that make them vulnerable.

Labeling errors can occur for various reasons, such as a production chain failure or oversight issues. These should be prevented through rigorous control measures.

This tarts recall underscores the need for consumers to carefully check food product labels before consuming them.
