  • Recall of Candies and Snacks Due to Salmonella Risk.
  • FDA Alerts.
  • Here are the details.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has raised the alert level on the voluntary recall of a series of candies and snacks sold in stores like Target and Walmart.

The recall, initially announced on May 6 by Palmer Candy Co. from Sioux City, Iowa, is now classified as a higher health risk due to potential contamination with salmonella.

The recall affects approximately two dozen products, including pretzels and other snacks coated in white chocolate.

These products could cause serious illnesses or even death if consumed. The recalled items have expiration dates extending to April 2025, so consumers should check their pantries immediately.

The affected products were distributed nationally in stores such as Dollar General, HyVee, Target, and Walmart, as well as to wholesalers in several states, including Alabama, California, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

Consumers who have purchased these products should dispose of them immediately or return them to the point of sale for a refund.

The FDA advises shoppers to carefully review the products in their homes and avoid consuming these items to prevent potential health problems and avoid the Salmonella risk.

Last week, the FDA upgraded Palmer Candy’s product recall to a Class I level, because «there is a reasonable probability that using or being exposed to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death,» according to the agency’s definitions.

FDA Warns About Salmonella Risks

The update of the recall was first reported by the website Consumer Affairs.

Lower classifications are assigned when a product might lead to «temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences» (Class II).

Or when the product is unlikely to «cause adverse health consequences» (Class III), according to the FDA.

At the time of the original recall due to Salmonella risk, Palmer Candy’s CEO, Marty Palmer, stated that production of the products had been stopped pending an investigation.
