Authorities have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a Dominican mother and the serious injury of her daughter during a double stabbing over the weekend in The Bronx.

The suspect, 47-year-old Ramón Reyes, was charged Monday with several counts, including first-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

The violent attack occurred around 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, when police responded to a 911 call about two women stabbed near Park Avenue and East 161st Street.

Upon arrival, officers found a 57-year-old woman stabbed multiple times in the chest and a 40-year-old woman stabbed throughout her body. Both victims were taken to a hospital, where Rosemary Tapia Bautista, 57, was pronounced dead. Her daughter remains in stable condition.

Family Members Identify Victims and Accuse Ex-Boyfriend Ramón Reyes

According to family members, the deceased woman was the mother of the injured woman, and the suspect was her daughter’s ex-boyfriend. Initial reports mistakenly identified the women as sisters.

“She’s my cousin, and my aunt… she’s the one who passed away,” said Saara Ciprián, a relative of the victims. “We want justice, because a life was taken from us.”

The case is under investigation, and a person of interest remains in custody.

Ramón Reyes has a known history of domestic violence with his ex-girlfriend. In September 2023, he reportedly sprayed her and her two children with pepper spray. It is believed the couple’s children were present in the apartment at the time of Sunday’s deadly attack.

Reyes faces multiple charges, including first- and second-degree murder, attempted murder, robbery, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal possession of a weapon.

Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the attack but indicated it may have stemmed from an ongoing conflict between the parties involved.

NBC 4 New York reported that police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crime.

Neighbors in the building where the attack took place expressed shock and concern, stating they had never witnessed such violence in the area before.
