IT HAPPENED ON HIS VICTIM’S BIRTHDAY! The state of Texas carried out the execution of Ramiro Gonzales, 41, on Wednesday.

Gonzales was convicted of the brutal murder of Bridget Townsend, an 18-year-old girl, who was raped, shot to death, and dumped in a field.

At 6:50 pm CT, Gonzales received a lethal injection, becoming the second inmate executed in Texas this year and the eighth in the entire country, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice reported.

Bridget Townsend, the victim, was just beginning her life when she was tragically murdered. Now, 23 years later, the family got justice.

This act marked a before and after for the family, especially for the victim’s mother, who went to the jail where the procedure took place.

Hours before the execution, the mother declared that: «He does not deserve mercy,» reported the news portal of USA TODAY.

«I cannot express in words the pain I have caused everyone, the pain, what I took from myself and I cannot give it back,» were González’s last words.

The prisoner expressed that he had dedicated his remaining time on Earth to working to take responsibility for his actions, with the goal of «giving it all back.»

Did he want to make up for Bridget’s death?

In a moment that surprised many, Gonzales declared his love for the Townsends, his victim’s family.

Gonzales’ final statements were not the only words of regret.

During his time in prison, Gonzales committed to various rehabilitation programs and sought ways to redeem his actions.

However, for many, no act or word could erase the pain inflicted by the murder of Bridget Townsend.

For the Townsend family, the pain of losing Bridget will never fade. However, Ramiro stated that «they were always in her prayers.»

«I never stopped praying for all of you. I never stopped praying that they would forgive me and that one day I would have this opportunity to apologize,” he added.

Despite Gonzales’ words of apology, the loss of a daughter, sister and friend is a wound that will not heal easily.

«I owe my life to all of you and I hope that one day you will forgive me,» Gonzales declared. «To his entire family, I am sorry,» he expressed for the last time and quoted USA TODAY.
