Rafael Nadal, one of the greatest legends in tennis, has officially announced his retirement from professional sports at the age of 38, following the Final 8 of the Davis Cup, which will take place in Málaga from November 19 to 24.

In an emotional video posted this Thursday, the Spanish tennis player reflected on his 22 years at the top of the sport, filled with numerous achievements and challenges.

Nadal, who has struggled with physical issues in recent seasons, stated: «The reality is that the last two years have been tough, and I haven’t been able to play without limitations.»

«It’s a difficult decision that has taken me time, but in life, everything has a beginning and an end.»

«I believe it’s the right moment to bring an end to what has been a long career, much more successful than I ever could have imagined.»

Throughout his career, Nadal has accumulated an impressive 92 titles, including 22 Grand Slam tournaments, as well as a gold medal at the Olympics and five Davis Cups.

His next goal will be to attempt to win a sixth Davis Cup for Spain, starting with the match against the Netherlands on November 19.

In his message, Nadal recalled his early days in tennis and his connection to the Davis Cup, mentioning that «one of my first great joys as a professional tennis player was the final in Seville in 2004.»

Known as the king of clay, Nadal retires with a record of 1,080 matches won and 227 lost, showcasing his dominance at Roland Garros, where he claimed 14 titles.

In his message, Nadal expressed his gratitude to everyone who has been part of his journey, from his rivals to his team and his family.

«Family is everything to me,» Nadal said with a trembling voice, thanking his mother and wife, Mery, in particular.
