Donald Trump claims that talks with Putin were «very good and productive»
US President Donald Trump said on Friday that his government’s talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin were «very good and productive.»
Trump stated there are «very good chances» that the «horrible and bloody» war in Ukraine might come to an end.
«We had very good and productive discussions with President Vladimir Putin yesterday, and there is a very good chance that this horrible and bloody war will finally end,» Trump wrote on his Truth Social network.
The situation in Kursk and the ceasefire negotiations between Trump and Putin
The US president emphasized the importance of these talks in achieving a possible ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Trump also suggested that the issue of Ukrainian troops in the Russian region of Kursk was addressed during the meeting with Putin.
On Thursday, Putin stated that Russia has encircled the Ukrainian soldiers remaining in Kursk, a region that Kiev troops invaded last August.
Moscow has launched an offensive in the last two weeks in Kursk, regaining large portions of territory.
Trump referred to the situation of the surrounded Ukrainian soldiers with a message in capital letters.
«Right now, thousands of Ukrainian soldiers are completely surrounded by the Russian army and in a very bad and vulnerable position,» he wrote on Truth Social.

International reactions and negotiations for a ceasefire in Ukraine
Trump’s request has generated various reactions in the international community, with some analysts noting his unusual intervention in the conflict.
On Thursday, a US delegation led by White House special envoy Steve Witkoff met in Moscow with Putin.
The meeting’s goal was to discuss a 30-day ceasefire offer with Ukraine.
The agreement was reached this week in Saudi Arabia between Washington and Kiev.
Putin said he is in favor of the truce but warned that he sees problems in its implementation and verification.
The Russian president considered it desirable to speak by phone with his US counterpart to discuss more details of the possible ceasefire.
The war in Ukraine has left thousands dead and millions displaced since it began in February 2022.
The international community is closely following the negotiations for a cessation of hostilities.
Trump’s intervention in this conflict has been interpreted by some as an attempt to influence US foreign policy.
Meanwhile, the White House has not commented on the president’s claims.
The future of the truce between Russia and Ukraine remains uncertain, and discussions between Washington, Moscow, and Kiev are ongoing.
