Pope Francis issued sharp criticism of both U.S. presidential candidates, focusing on their policies regarding abortion and migration.

He urged American Catholics to deeply reflect before casting their votes in the upcoming election.

During a press conference on his flight back to Rome from Asia, the pontiff labeled both the candidate supporting abortion and the one expelling migrants as «anti-life.»

Highlighting that these stances contradict the Church’s teachings on the dignity of life, the Pope was quoted by the Daily Mail.

«Both are against life, both the one who expels immigrants and the one who supports the killing of babies,» said Francis, reiterating the importance of defending life in all its forms.

His critique touches on two critical issues for Catholic doctrine: the right to life from conception and the protection of migrants.

Pope Francis, known for his pastoral approach and focus on the marginalized, has made migration a central theme of his papacy.

He reiterated that migration is a right deeply rooted in Scripture and called it a «grave sin» to refuse to welcome migrants.

What Did Pope Francis Advise Voters?

«The biblical call to welcome the stranger is clear,» he emphasized.

On the topic of abortion, the pontiff left no room for ambiguity, describing the procedure as murder:

«Abortion is killing a human being,» he said, adding that while the word «kill» may discomfort some, it is necessary to face this reality with clarity.

These remarks highlight the dilemma faced by many American Catholics as they consider these issues when voting.

Whom Should Catholics Vote For?

The political platforms of the main parties present starkly different approaches to abortion and migration, the Daily Mail reported.

Pope Francis spoke about the dangers of policies that contradict fundamental human dignity principles.

When asked how Catholic voters should act in the presidential elections, Francis urged them to fulfill their civic duty but advised choosing the «lesser evil» between the candidates.

«You must vote and choose the lesser evil,» he stressed. «Who is the lesser evil, the woman or the man? I don’t know,» he said, suggesting that each person must make that decision in good conscience.
