Pennsylvania shooting victims are identified
The incident, which occurred at Delaware County Linen around 8:30 am, also left three other people injured.
One of them is currently in critical condition, and the other two are stable, Chester authorities reported.
On Thursday, the identities of the workers who were killed in the shooting were confirmed to be Hispanic.
«Two people who, unfortunately, lost their lives simply by showing up to work,» stated District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer.
The suspect in the shooting has also been identified
At that time, it was revealed that the victims were two brothers from the Dominican Republic, according to EFE.
The identity of the suspect who began shooting at workers in the Chester company was also disclosed.
According to ABC 6, Wilbert Rosado Ruiz, 61, has been arrested. He is scheduled to appear before a judge next week.
Police confirmed that the shooter was also an employee and his motive is unknown.
An argument ends in gunfire
Local media reported that employees described Ruiz as a problematic person.
Initially, the sound of gunfire was thought to be an explosion due to the chemicals used at the company.
Eric Spencer, an employee, said it all started as an argument among several coworkers, including the gunman.
Spencer recounted how the shooter began firing at his colleagues at close range. The tragedy has shocked the Chester community.
The investigation is ongoing
Leovanny and Giguenson Peña Peña were well-known and beloved in their neighborhood, and their loss is deeply mourned.
«It’s an indescribable tragedy to lose two good friends in this way,» commented one of the brothers’ coworkers, who preferred to remain anonymous.
District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer pledged justice for the victims and their families following the tragedy in a statement.
«This type of violence cannot be tolerated. We will investigate thoroughly to ensure that the responsible party is held accountable,» he stated.
The impact of the shooting on the community
Delaware County Linen issued a statement expressing condolences to the victims’ families.
«We deeply regret the loss of our colleagues Leovanny and Giguenson Peña Peña. We are cooperating with the authorities in the investigation,» they said.
The Peña Peña brothers had immigrated to the United States in search of a better life. Their relatives in the Dominican Republic are devastated by the news.
Pennsylvania authorities are working with the Dominican consulate to facilitate the repatriation process of the bodies.
