Pedro Alegría went out to celebrate his birthday and was shot to death in North Carolina by Jason Leonard. The Greensboro Police Department (GPD) revealed details of the young Hispanic man’s brutal murder.

According to the case report, consulted by MundoNOW, last Sunday, July 31, 2022 at 2:19 in the morning, several people called the emergency number to report a shooting and a badly wounded man at The Blind Tiger bar at 1819 Spring Garden Street.

Pedro Alegría was murdered while he was celebrating with his friends

When the first GPD officer arrived at The Blind Tiger they found a young Hispanic man shot. The officers tried offer him first aid but they were unable to help him. The young man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The young man shot to death was identified as 19-year-old Pedro Alegría who was at The Blind Tiger to celebrate his birthday with some friends and family. Detectives from the GPD Homicide Division came to the scene to investigate the case.

Pedro Alegría was not armed when he arrived at the club

The detectives of the Homicide Division of the GPD discovered that the alleged murderer of Pedro Alegría had been guarding the door of The Blind Tiger for a reason that is not yet known. The Hispanic youth was not armed and there were no reports of any conflict before the shooting.

At the scene, GPD officers arrested 28-year-old Jason Leonard for allegedly shooting Pedro Alegría. The arrest warrant against the alleged murderer details that the man is an employee of the security agency hired by the club.

The Blind Tiger says they are not responsible

After the murder of Pedro Alegría, The Blind Tiger announced that the club will be closed indefinitely and all shows have been cancelled. In Greensboro, North Carolina, that club is known because fights and shootings are common there.

The Blind Tiger offered a statement about the murder. «The club is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a young man’s life outside the building… this young man’s death was not caused by any action or inaction by The Blind Tiger and could have occurred anywhere else.»

Pedro Alegría leaves his pregnant girlfriend behind

Giselle García, a friend of Pedro Alegría’s family, launched the GoFundMe campaign, Pedro’s Last Goodbye to raise money for his burial expenses and unborn child.

“Pedro went out for his last night celebrating his 19 birthday when he innocently got his life taken away. Every help that anyone can help with will go to his funeral expenses and to his pregnant girlfriend who is carrying his baby boy. Porfavor ayuden a la familia de pedro en este momento dificil para ellos. Gracias.” it says.

Gun deaths on the rise

The murder of Pedro Alegría by African-American Jason Leonard is one of thousands of incidents involving firearms. The organization National Archive on Gun Violence reported that so far in 2022, 25,899 people have already been shot to death.

As of Friday, July 22, 2022, of those people shot to death in the United States, a total of 11,841 were killed and 13,058 committed suicide. The country has already suffered 384 mass shootings, in which at least four people were shot dead in the same event.
