Venezuela’s elected president, Edmundo González Urrutia, handed over more than 25,000 electoral records collected by opposition witnesses during the July 28, 2024, elections to the government of Panama on Wednesday.
These documents, which certify his victory with 67% of the votes, will be kept in the vaults of the National Bank of Panama.
The formal handover took place in a ceremonial act in Panama City.
There, González Urrutia signed the custody agreement, which was received by Panamanian Foreign Minister Javier Martínez-Acha Vásquez on behalf of President José Raúl Molino.

Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado celebrated the event and declared:
«The records of truth, which express the popular sovereignty and the decision for change of the Venezuelans, will remain under Panama’s custody until they can return to Venezuela.»
The signed document highlights that these records, directly issued by voting machines, reflect the will of the Venezuelans, as confirmed on Machado’s Instagram account.
With 85.18% of the records digitized, the results show 7,443,584 votes for González Urrutia versus 3,385,155 for Nicolás Maduro.

The collection of these documents was a complex process led by the ConVzla command, headed by María Corina Machado.
It represents a symbol of democratic resistance. The records will remain protected in Panama until they can return to Venezuela to support the democratic transition.
