A massive explosion outside the American Reproductive Centers clinic in Palm Springs, California, rocked the area on Saturday and left at least one person dead.

Authorities are not ruling out the possibility of terrorism.

The blast occurred at 11:00 a.m. local time on North Indian Canyon Drive, a busy street in downtown Palm Springs.

According to local police, the explosion appears to have been caused by a vehicle parked next to the clinic building.

The shockwave was felt up to two miles away and shattered windows, scattering debris across the parking lot of the Desert Regional Medical Center, located across from the American Reproductive Centers clinic.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant William Hutchinson confirmed one fatality and stated that «everything is under review, including whether this was an act of terrorism.»

Emergency crews and firefighters remain on the scene, and the city has urged residents to avoid the area to not interfere with operations.

By noon, patrol cars, ambulances, and helicopters continued to arrive.

Nearby residents, including Matt Spencer, described the scene as chaotic. Just 200 meters from the site, he heard the blast and, upon approaching, saw part of the fertility clinic building’s front destroyed, a rear axle engulfed in flames, and smoke filling the area.

Another resident, Tamara Cash, said the noise was so loud she thought it was an earthquake.

“It shook my entire body,” she said.

American Reproductive Centers is the only comprehensive fertility clinic with an IVF laboratory in the Coachella Valley.

The explosion comes amid heightened national security tensions, following recent incidents of violence and threats targeting medical facilities.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the deceased was the vehicle’s driver or a bystander.
