The University of Birmingham conducted a study with revealing results. First, a thousand people who had undergone tonsillectomies were surveyed.

The report revealed that eight out of ten adults confirmed that they have engaged in oral sex at some point in their lives.

Currently, throat cancer is among the top ten most diagnosed cancers in Spain. There are approximately 8,000 cases per year.

In Latin American countries, this issue is becoming increasingly serious. A 17.2 percent increase in cancer mortality is predicted for 2030, and it could be from oral sex.

Hisham Mehanna, director of the Institute of Head and Neck Studies and Education at the University of Birmingham, explained the findings.

The lead researcher stated that in countries with HPV vaccination programs, there is less throat cancer.

He believes that if vaccine coverage is low, throat cancer is more likely to occur due to oral sex.

Additionally, the report revealed that those who have had more than six sexual partners with whom they’ve engaged in oral sex, they are 8.5 times more prone to throat cancer.

In short, throat cancer is associated with the number of people you’ve had oral sex with.

According to this research, the United States and the United Kingdom are two countries with highest rates of throat cancer.

In these countries, throat cancer is becoming even more common than cervical cancer.

The human papillomavirus (HPV), is also considered to be one of the main causes of cervical cancer.

Sexually transmitted diseases are increasing

Hisham Mehanna believes that sexually transmitted diseases are on the rise.

He also stated that most people will clear an HPV infection without treatment, but some don’t and can be contagious without having symptoms.

For this reason, HPV vaccination should not be exclusively encouraged for women but should also be promoted among men.

Like many vaccines, many people are opting not to get it.

Oral sex can also cause mouth cancer

In addition to throat cancer, oral sex can also lead to mouth cancer, according to El País.

Smoking and multiple sex partners are two of the leading risk factors. Do not discount this information.

«Only 0.5 percent of non-smoking women suffered from cancer due to the human papillomavirus,» said Dr. Eduardo Raboso García-Baquero.

Finally, he stated that 1.5 percent of non-smoking men suffered from cancer due to the human papillomavirus. So think twice before you go downtown.
