Olympic athlete Shavez Hart was shot to death outside a bar and the sports world mourns the tragic news that has undoubtedly crushed fans of the young athlete who was just four days away from reaching his 30th birthday.

Shavez Hart was from the Bahamas which is where the tragedy occurred. The Olympic athlete tried to break up a fight between several people outside a nightclub at around two in the morning, according to the Daily Mail.

Shavez Hart was murdered

Shavez Hart, 29, was reportedly outside a nightclub in Mount Hope in the Abaco Islands of the Bahamas when he tried to stop a group of men from fighting. It was then that he was apparently shot by an unidentified person, reported the Daily Mail.

One of the men involved in the fight is alleged to have left the altercation to go to the parking lot where his car was and get a gun. He ended up shooting Shavez Hart in the chest. People tried to help him and called the emergency services to transport him to the hospital.

Hart leaves a wife and child behind

Shavez Hart competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics and left behind a wife and son. after being shot, he was immediately transported to the hospital where doctors were unable to save him and he was pronounced dead days before he celebrated his 30th birthday.

According to local media reports, a man suspected of shooting the Olympic athlete was arrested by police and taken into custody while the investigations are carried out. One of the people most affected by the tragic news is Shavez Hart’s mother who spoke out about what happened to her son.

Shavez Hart’s heartbroken mom speaks out

The Olympian’s mother, Shammaine Hart, told the Nassau Guardian: «He was a very good son, very quiet and always willful. He did a lot of work for the community and always tried to give back what he received. I’m definitely going to miss him a lot,» she said.

The Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Philip Brave Davis, paid tribute to Shavez Hart, saying that the country was greatly blessed to have an excellent athlete like him carried the flag representing their nation around the world: «On behalf of my family and the people of the Bahamas, I offer my condolences to the family,» he wrote on Twitter.

People offer their condolences for the Olympic athlete’s murder

Sports Minister Mario Bowleg said: «It is with great sadness that I express my deepest condolences to the family of Olympian Shavez Hart,» he wrote. The young man was eight times champion in the competition of 100 and 200 meters in the Bahamas, which catapulted him to compete in the Olympic Games.

He qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics with a time of 10.10 seconds in the 100m sprint competition, breaking his personal best by becoming the third fastest Bahamian runner of all time.
