Norma Otilia Hernández Martínez, former mayor of Chilpancingo, who was expelled from Morena for meeting with Celso Ortega, leader of Los Ardillos, attended the funeral of Chilpancingo’s mayor, Alejandro Arcos Catalán.
However, she was met with shouts of rejection.
“Get out, get out!” “Murderer!” and “You sold out the people!” were among the cries from those present at the funeral.
The former mayor left the funeral visibly upset and in tears.

Later, she shared a message on social media describing Arcos as her friend and fellow comrade in struggles.
On her Facebook account, she expressed solidarity with the family of the murdered mayor and called for peace in Chilpancingo.
In a video, she reiterated her condolences and stated that she had always shared ideals with Arcos, despite being in different political parties.
Family members and politicians gathered at the Church of Santa Cruz to bid farewell to the mayor, who was killed just six days after taking office.
Hundreds of people protested outside the church, demanding justice for Arcos’ murder.
One citizen held signs with messages like “No more blood” and “Justice for our president.”

Arcos’ decapitated body was found inside a vehicle in Chilpancingo, just a day before the funeral.
A few days earlier, his general secretary, Francisco Tapia, had also been murdered.
Arcos requested protection and promised peace in response to the rising violence in Guerrero
The mayor had asked for protection from Guerrero’s governor, Evelyn Salgado, following Tapia’s murder.
The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, stated that investigations into the crime are ongoing.
Arcos had promised to ensure peace and security in Chilpancingo with the support of the Mexican Army.
Violence in Guerrero has escalated due to disputes between organized crime groups over territorial control.
