These include Sentras from 2002 to 2006, as well as certain SUV Pathfinders from 2002 to 2004 and SUV Infiniti QX4s from 2002 and 2003.

To check the risk for other vehicles, it is recommended that consumers visit nissanusa.com/takata-airbag-recall or infinitiusa.com/takata-airbag-recall.

Another option is to enter the 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), according to The Associated Press.

Nissan urges owners to contact their dealer to schedule a free appointment to replace the airbag inflators.

They also offer free towing to dealerships.

And in some areas, mobile services and loaner cars are available.

«The risk to vehicle occupants is higher in older models because the age of the airbag is a contributing factor,» stated the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in a press release.

Nearly 84,000 remain unrepaired and are believed to still be in use.

The company claims it has made numerous attempts to reach the owners with unrepaired Takata inflators.

Lastly, it was reported that the person who died in 2018 was driving a 2006 Sentra.
