After writing songs for organizations like the Northeast Cartel, which paid him at least $500 per song, the young man became a Christian singer. In an interview with RDTV , Barrett said he was: «A rapper who made dedications to whoever paid him.» He added that he not only wrote for drug traffickers, but also for «people who had money, who worked on the other side.»

Given these statements, social media users speculated that the Northeast Cartel may have ordered Alejandro Barret’s murder, either to settle a score or because they were unhappy with a song 5050 wrote for them. Click here to see the full interview.

The musician said in the interview for RDTV that at some point he asked God to give him a sign that He existed. “Immediately I began to feel a tremor,” he recounted, “I had an earthquake inside my heart, inside my body.” After that experience he began to “dedicate his life to God”.

In the video, the young man said that he would not write for organized crime anymore and that he would make sure he knew the story he was going to tell before deciding whether or not to compose a song. This situation possibly made some drug traffickers angry.

Tamaulipas has also been a key point for organized crime, as it has been the site of confrontations between different cartels. Starting in the 1980s, violent incidents have put this state in the eye of the hurricane.
