Following the tragedy caused by her son Colt Gray at Apalachee High School, which left several victims, Marcee Gray, the shooter’s mother, has spoken out.
Devastated, the mother of the 14-year-old boy, who is now in custody after carrying out the shooting that killed four people, broke her silence to apologize.
Heartbroken, Colt Gray’s mother insisted that her son “is not a monster” and expressed her sorrow for the families of those who lost their lives.
According to Infobae, the woman pleaded for forgiveness: “From the bottom of my heart, I am so very sorry.”
Colt Gray’s Mother Apologizes for the Tragedy Her Son Caused
She expressed her feelings in a letter she wrote herself, which was obtained by CNN. The letter was directed to the families of the victims.
The families of the four victims—two teachers and two students—were devastated by the tragedy, and Marcee Gray is fully aware of that.
“If I could take Mason and Christian’s place, I would do so without a second thought,” she said, referring to the two 14-year-old boys who were killed because of her son.
She also shared words for the two teachers who “gave their lives in the service of teaching and protecting” the students.
Devastated by What Her Son Did
Marcee Gray said her family is living a nightmare and that she will never forgive herself for what her son Colt, who faces second-degree murder charges, did.
“My son Colt is not a monster. He is my eldest baby. He is quiet, thoughtful, loving, funny, and extremely intelligent,” she stated.
She had received a message from Colt that said “I’m sorry, Mom,” prompting her to call the school to warn them about a possible attack.
Colt Gray and his father are scheduled to appear in court again on December 4. In the meantime, they will remain in custody.
