This current malaria case in a foreign migrant is just the tip of the iceberg regarding the health challenges associated with migration.

«Personnel from the epidemiology area of the department reported that the woman is pregnant,» the press release stated.

The precarious living conditions, lack of access to basic health services and transience of migrants contribute to the spread of diseases.

«[Furthermore], she traveled through several countries where cases of this type have been reported, so it is established that the contagion could have occurred during her journey,» the Health Department reported.
