A new HIV medication has been approved in Mexico

New HIV treatments have recently approved by Mexican health authorities.
The news was recently announced by Spanish news agency EFE.
A total of 149 health supplies were authorized by the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (COFEPRIS).

COFEPRIS, a subsidiary of the Mexican Ministry of Health, announced the approval of the new HIV treatments in a statement.
Approval was also granted for 149 health supplies in the categories of medications, medical devices and clinical trials.
Twenty-five medications, including efavirenz lamivudine tenofovir disoproxil fumarate pills were approved.
This includes a new pill for the treatment of HIV and L-asparaginase, a biotechnological treatment for acute lymphoid leukemia.
HIV treatments for people with obesity

COFEPRIS also announced: «A protocol was authorized to determine the effects of HIV treatment in people with obesity.»
New clinical trials were also authorized, according to Mexican health authorities.
These were HIV treatments as well as cancer treatment.
One medication was targeted at children over 12 years and adults with severe hemophilia A or B.
HIV rates in girls and women in Mexico alarm authorities

El País reported on the 340,000 people living with HIV in Mexico in 2019.
A total of 20% of the total cases reported at that time were in girls and women.
Epidemiologist Brenda Crabtree told El País about the alarming figures regarding women and girls with HIV in the country.
«Part of the female population living with the virus is unaware of it because women are not part of public policies.»
New figures 0n people infected with HIV in Mexico

The National Center for the Prevention and Control of HIV and AIDS released a new report on the HIV figures in Mexico.
The report details the number of people infected with HIV in the first quarter of 2023.
According to the report, a total of 4,222 new cases of HIV were reported in the first quarter of 2023.
In the first quarter of 2022, 17,620 new cases were reported.
