Acting with an abundance of caution, Modesto, California-based Rizo Lopez Foods, Inc. has recalled 344 cases of Aged Cotija Mexican Grating Cheese (8 oz).

The recall was announced after reports of potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

This organism can cause serious infections, especially in young children, frail or elderly people and those with weakened immune systems.

Although healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms, Listeria infection poses significant risks to pregnant women, potentially causing miscarriages and stillbirths.

It comes in 8oz «puck» shaped containers, wrapped in clear plastic and marked with red and black letters on the bottom stating «Cotija, made with Grade A Milk.»

In addition, the ingredients are listed, while the nutritional data is located at the bottom in black.

The top of the package reads “Cotija Aged Mexican Grating Cheese” with an orange background, as well as “SELL BY 05/12/24 BATCH 4DW-23318.”
