Originally from Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico, Sara Elena Ramírez Vargas was born on August 31, 1975, making them 48 years old.
Despite having an extensive career in film, and even video games, they rose to fame in the world of television.
Sara is best known for portraying the character of surgeon Calliope «Callie» Torres in the series Grey’s Anatomy.
In August 2020, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, they surprised fans by coming out as non-binary.
Sara Ramirez has used they/them pronouns since 2021
According to El Financiero, being non-binary doesn’t have anything to do with appearance.
Being non-binary, as in the case of actress Sara Ramirez, means a person doesn’t identify as just one gender.
These individuals often choose to use neutral pronouns like they/them.

Ramirez was married for nearly 10 years
Few remember that Mexican actress Sara Ramirez married their longtime boyfriend, Ryan DeBolt, in July 2012.
Four years later, on October 8, 2016, they came out as bisexual at the 40 To None Summit, but there was more to come.
After announcing they identify as non-binary on July 6, 2021, they announced that they and Ryan were no longer together.
In addition to activism, Sara campaigns for LGBTQ+ rights and works with True Colors United, a non-profit dedicated to helping LGBTQ+ youth.
«Callie has taught me a lot about bravery»
Sara Ramirez’s Grey’s Anatomy character, Callie Torres, also came out as bisexual on the show.
«Callie, who is part of the LGBTQ+ community, has taught me a lot about bravery,» said the actress at the time.
In 2016, they described themselves as a «multiracial, bisexual, Mexican-Irish-American and immigrant woman.»
However, it was not all smooth sailing, as they feared that their decision might have a negative impact on their career.
Sara Ramirez is non-binary
In another interview with El Mundo, Sara Ramirez spoke again about their sexuality.
Here, they revealed that they were not comfortable with the labels of man or woman, but that did not mean they could not feel masculine or feminine at different times.
«I have the ability to be a feminine guy, a masculine girl, a masculine guy, and a feminine girl. All and none. I am non-binary,» they said.
Sara Ramírez also had a prominent role in the updated version of another famous series that broke paradigms in its time: Sex and the City. They play Che Díaz in And Just Like That.
