Martín Rodríguez is accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend Naomi Davis in a brutal case of domestic violence in Austin, Texas.

Rodríguez, 20 years old, has a long and violent criminal history despite his young age. Just two weeks before killing his girlfriend he was in jail.

Travis County criminal records detail that Martín Rodríguez was released on December 15, 2023 after posting bail.

Martín Rodríguez was arrested for robbery with a weapon and spent almost a month behind bars until he was granted bail.

According to the Texas Penal Code, the crime of homicide is punishable by a sentence of 20 to 99 years in prison.

The shooting death of 19-year-old Naomi Davis sparked a wave of outrage in the Texas capital as the community questions why her killer was allowed to post bail.

The APD emergency operators received several calls at 8:49 p.m. on January 1, 2024.

According to neighbors, they called to report a shooting in an apartment at 4900 East Oltorf Street in southeast Austin.

Several APD officers responded to the scene as neighbors in the complex reported that at least two people were seriously injured.

Paramedics from the Austin Fire Department (AFD) also responded to the scene after reports of injuries.

When AFD paramedics attended to Naomi Davis there was nothing they could do and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Martín Rodríguez also had a gunshot wound, but his injuries were not life-threatening and he was taken to a hospital after being arrested.

APD detectives began investigating the case after Naomi Davos was pronounced dead.

Ballistics evidence from the weapon recovered at the scene determined that Martín Rodríguez had shot his girlfriend and then shot himself.

Based on this evidence, charges were filed against Martín Rodríguez for the brutal killing of his girlfriend Naomi Davis.

Martín Rodríguez’s brutal crime in Austin, Texas, is just one of the many incidents involving firearms that occur every day in the United States.

According to the National Gun Violence Archive so far in 2024, as of Sunday January 7, 907 people have already been shot dead.

Of those people, 313 were murdered and 594 committed suicide. In addition, 586 were badly injured after the shooting incident this year.

So far, the United States has already had six mass shootings where at least four people died in each incident.
