Following Maribel Guardia’s complaint against her former daughter-in-law, Imelda Tuñón, the mother of her grandson and widow of Julián Figueroa, speculation surrounding the circumstances of the Costa Rican singer’s son’s death has not ceased.
On Friday, January 31, Maribel Guardia held a press conference where she explained the reasons behind her complaint against Imelda.
According to the singer, the legal action was motivated by her ex-daughter-in-law’s health condition, claiming that she was using illegal substances.
Additionally, Guardia stated that Tuñón had confessed to her that she needed to enter a rehabilitation clinic to address her addictions.
Maribel Guardia Expresses Concern for Her Grandson’s Safety and Imelda Tuñón’s Problems
Maribel added that the last few times Imelda drove a car, she ended up crashing it, with the most recent accident resulting in a total loss of the vehicle.
The Costa Rican actress expressed her concern for her grandson’s safety, emphasizing that he is still too young to seek help in dangerous situations.
“I know he has a mother, and God willing, I hope they can be together because that is what they both deserve… But at the same time, the child does not deserve a mother who is ill and unable to provide the security he needs.”
Guardia also detailed that she had been covering all of her grandson’s expenses, including a driver, a nanny, school fees, and even the rent for Imelda’s apartment. She also claimed to have paid for Imelda’s psychiatrist, medication, and other personal expenses.
“For her chewing gum,” she commented about the money she provided.
In response, Imelda Tuñón, in a recent interview with her aunt, Addis Tuñón, refuted Maribel’s accusations.

Imelda claimed that her mother-in-law and her husband, Marco Chacón, had stopped inviting her to family events, making her feel “excluded.”
She asserted that Maribel was obsessed with sending her to a rehabilitation clinic and was never interested in determining whether she was sober or not—her only goal was to “lock her up.”
Tito Frank Defends His Daughter Imelda and Refutes Maribel Guardia’s Accusations
The controversy escalated further when Imelda’s father, ‘Tito Frank,’ joined the debate on February 3, posting a statement on his Instagram account.
According to ‘Tito Frank,’ he had been closely monitoring his daughter’s behavior and had not noticed any signs of the alleged issues mentioned by Maribel.
“Since the violent separation from her son, orchestrated by Maribel and the authorities, and after spending seven months visiting on weekends with my grandson, Imelda has now been living with me for two weeks since this injustice began,” he wrote.
Continuing his statement, he added:
“… I have monitored all her outings… I observe her every move to determine if she is lying to me, if she is truly under the influence of drugs or alcohol. But none of that has happened in my presence. If, as Maribel claims, she has addictions, I would have already noticed.”
Tito Frank Reveals Details About Julián Figueroa’s Death and Maribel Guardia’s Role
In his statement, ‘Tito Frank’ also addressed the death of Julián Figueroa, suggesting that Maribel never recognized the internal struggles her son faced. Instead of providing emotional support, he claimed, she attempted to fill the void with material possessions, which may have contributed to his psychological deterioration.
“She damaged him psychologically and expected a rehabilitation clinic to fix the problem. Of course, he relapsed into drugs and alcoholism—those were just reflections of deeper emotional wounds,” he asserted.
Additionally, Imelda’s father alleged that in Julián’s final moments, Maribel was not present and only thought of him after he had already passed away.
“When Julián suffered the heart attack that took his life, it was indeed a heart attack. But not because he was weak—it was because of what Maribel paid to keep hidden, under the pretext of protecting her son’s memory.”
Finally, ‘Tito Frank’ criticized Maribel’s approach, claiming that she tried to replace love and care with nannies and chauffeurs. He also mentioned that this was not the first time Maribel had attempted to separate Imelda from her son.
As of this writing, Maribel Guardia has not responded to these new allegations.
