María Gómez Pérez Banner: Community in Active Search

For over a month, the question of what happened to 12-year-old María Gómez Pérez has weighed heavily on the Hall County community.

On Friday, a new effort was announced in hopes of bringing her back home.

María was last seen in the driveway of her home on May 29, and there has been no news of her since.

Community members seeking to bring María home displayed a banner in a busy area of Gainesville.

They hope that someone passing by will see it and help solve the case.

A mother, Christy Vásquez, drove from Marietta to show her support, reported 11 Alive.

«I have daughters, Latina daughters, aged 11 and 13. This could very well be us. It really hit me,» Vásquez told 11 Alive.

Community activist Art Gallegos hopes the banner will engage more people in the search for María.

«We can’t just say this is another 13-year-old girl from Guatemala who disappeared in our town,» Gallegos told 11 Alive.

María’s father, Andrés Gómez, says the banner is a sign of hope.

«Seeing everyone come together and not giving up, and seeing all these banners being put up, thank you so much,» Gómez told 11 Alive.
