The murder remains under investigation.
Joseph Kenny, Chief of Detectives at the New York Police Department, reported that Mangione suffered a life-altering back injury.
Kenny suggested that Mangione may have targeted Thompson due to UnitedHealthcare’s prominence.
“We have no indication he was a client, but he mentions it being the fifth-largest corporation in the U.S.,” Kenny stated.
“This makes it the largest healthcare organization in the country,” he added.
Mangione was arrested on Monday at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
