The Nebraska State Patrol has revealed new details about the violent shooting that shook the quiet town of Crete.

The incident, which left seven injured, appears to be motivated by hatred towards Hispanics.

The terror unfolded at 4:33 p.m. on Friday when Saline County’s 911 received multiple reports of an active shooter in the 1200 block of Crestline Drive.

Crete police and Saline County deputies quickly arrived, only to be met by the deafening sound of continuous gunfire.

Officers found several victims inside a house while gunfire erupted from a residence across the street.

In a chaotic scene, they evacuated the wounded to safe locations for treatment.

Seven people were shot: four children aged 3 to 10 and three adults aged 22 to 43, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

Of the injured, six were initially taken to the Crete Area Medical Center.

A seventh victim, wounded hours later, was also taken to the hospital.

As of Saturday afternoon, four patients had been discharged, while three were still receiving care—two at Children’s Hospital in Omaha and one at Bryan Health West Campus in Lincoln.

Fortunately, none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.

While the victims were being evacuated, law enforcement established a perimeter and activated the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) SWAT team.

At 6:40 p.m., the SWAT team stormed the suspect’s house at 1810 Parkland Street, finding him dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Near the body of 74-year-old Billy Booth, they found a shotgun, seemingly the only weapon used in the attack.

Preliminary investigation indicates that all the bullets fired by Booth came from inside his house.

At the time of the shooting, approximately 15 people were in the victims’ residence, mostly in the backyard.

Crete Police Chief Gary Young Jr. revealed that one of the victims reported Booth had ordered them to «go back to their country,» according to NBC.

He also told them they should «speak English» before unleashing his homicidal rage.

The Nebraska State Patrol, Crete Police Department, and Saline County Sheriff expressed gratitude to the fire and rescue teams for their swift response.

The investigation is ongoing, aiming to clarify all the details of this tragic and disturbing attack.
