One in three Latinos in the United States could be affected by former President Donald Trump’s plan for mass deportations.

This would create a humanitarian crisis within Hispanic communities and disrupt the U.S. economy and essential supply chains, according to an analysis released on Tuesday.

At least 28 million people in the country would be impacted if Trump (in office 2017-2021) follows through with his plan.

The report, released today by immigrant advocacy organizations and California Democratic Senator Alex Padilla, was conducted by FWD.us.

The study detailed that out of the potentially affected population, around 20 million are Latinos.

They face the risk of deportation or family separation, representing a third of the Hispanic community in the country.

“Many lives could be shattered if Donald Trump is elected and follows through on his (mass deportation) promises,” warned Padilla.

Padilla currently chairs the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, and Border Security.

What Will Donald Trump’s Policies Cause?

The Democrat emphasized that voters need to understand that deporting approximately 13 million undocumented individuals would bring “devastation” to entire communities.

“We’re not just talking about immigration but also about the economy and how many businesses would be impacted,” Donald Trump added.

In that context, Janet Murguía, head of UnidosUS, highlighted that deporting millions would disrupt multiple supply chains across the nation.

“It’s a threat to our economy,” she asserted.

What Is Donald Trump’s Objective Here?

Murguía added that the Republican candidate’s popular promise is not about security but rather “about division.”

According to Vanessa Cárdenas, executive director of America’s Voice, Trump and his advisors’ goal is to make more people “deportable.”

She referenced a statement from Stephen Miller, Trump’s chief immigration advisor:

“America for Americans.”

Offensive Comments Toward Puerto Rico

Activists also cited divisive remarks made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe last Sunday at a Trump rally in New York.

Hinchcliffe referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage” and joked that Latinos “love having babies.”

Although the Republican campaign distanced itself from the remarks, Donald Trump has not addressed them.

On Tuesday, he described the weekend rally at Madison Square Garden as a “love fest.”

What Is the Outlook for the 2025 Election?

Gustavo Torres, president of CASA in Action, encourages Latino voting and has focused efforts this year on key states like Georgia and Pennsylvania.

He warned that Puerto Rican and Latino voters in those states “won’t forget” the offenses they’ve faced, urging Hispanic voters to get to the polls.

The report also cited studies showing that most Hispanic voters support increased border security.

They also favor immigration reform with a path to citizenship. *WITH INFORMATION FROM EFE
