The State of Mexico experienced a tragic night due to the heavy rains that struck the region, causing a landslide from a hill.
On social media, images began circulating of the Emiliano Zapata and La Raquelito neighborhoods in the Naucalpan delegation, showing the collapse of a hill.
The landslide buried a house and a school, leaving a death toll, according to reports by Infobae.
It all happened on the night of September 16, around nine p.m., after the intense rains in the State of Mexico.
Naucalpan Landslide Leaves Several Dead
In response to the tragedy, residents of the neighborhoods mobilized to alert authorities and attempt to rescue the victims.
So far, the confirmed death toll is at least six people, with three others reported injured; four of the victims were men.
Two women were rescued from the area and taken to Naucalpan General Hospital.
Civil Protection authorities indicated that the landslide affected a house and an elementary school.
Rescue Efforts in Response to the Tragedy in Naucalpan
Civil protection agents, as well as firefighters and security personnel, are working in the area to support the affected families.
Neighbors of the victims gathered with shovels and pickaxes, trying to rescue them from the dirt and debris.
Heavy rains pose a threat to homes built on hillsides in Mexico, as the unstoppable flow of water increases the risk of landslides.
