- Who Will Be Most Affected?
This Labor Day weekend, millions of Americans are preparing for varied weather conditions.
From extreme heat to severe storms and torrential rains, these could significantly impact travel plans and outdoor activities in various regions of the country.
The days leading up to the holiday weekend will be marked by a large heat dome covering from the Midwest to parts of the East, bringing high temperatures and sultry weather.
However, this heat dome will begin to break down as a cold front moves southeast, according to AccuWeather’s lead long-range meteorologist, Paul Pastelok.
WHAT IS THE FORECAST FOR THIS LABOR DAY?
Friday is a major travel day and could face complications due to heavy rains and thunderstorms.
These will extend from the Midwest to the south-central plains.

According to the Labor Day forecast, cities like Oklahoma City, Dallas, Detroit, and Chicago could experience significant delays at airports and on roads.
«The storms can be severe, with strong wind gusts and torrential rains that cause flash flooding,» warned Pastelok.
What states will be affected?
In the East, a bubble of high pressure will keep New England, including Boston, dry and comfortable on Friday.
However, further south and west in the Northeast, the air will remain warm and humid.
As the cold front approaches, scattered thunderstorms are expected to become more numerous and widespread on Saturday, affecting the central Appalachians and the mid-Atlantic.
The progress of the front will determine which areas of the Northeast can enjoy a drier Sunday and which will face additional rains and storms over the Labor Day weekend.
Will the rains continue into the Labor Day weekend?
In the South, from the Gulf Coast to the southern Atlantic coast, humid weather with rains and severe thunderstorms is expected, which could cause delays in air and road transportation on Monday.
«Labor Day may not be ideal for beach activities in these areas,» noted Pastelok to AccuWeather.
In the West, the Rocky Mountains and the Pacific Coast will experience more stable weather with no significant rain for much of the weekend.
However, there will be isolated storms in parts of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah, with heavy rains that could cause rapid runoff in canyons and dry riverbeds.
