  • He pretended to be a stalker and killed his wife in Colorado.
  • As reported by True Crime.
  • Here are the details.

A jury has found 44-year-old Daniel Krug guilty of murdering his wife, 43-year-old Kristil Krug, in a case that has shocked the state due to its level of manipulation and violence.

The verdict, delivered on Thursday, April 17, includes charges of first-degree murder, stalking, and criminal impersonation.

The events took place on December 14, 2023, when Broomfield police responded to a home on the 3100 block of Promontory Loop for a welfare check.

There, they found the lifeless body of Kristil Krug. Four days later, her husband was arrested as the prime suspect.

According to the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, starting in October 2023, Daniel Krug devised an elaborate plan to stalk his wife while making it appear that the perpetrator was her ex-boyfriend, who lived in Utah.

He purchased burner phones, created fake email and social media accounts, and impersonated a so-called «stalker.»

He even shared pictures of himself at work from the fake account, pretending that both he and his wife were being targeted by the same person.

This fabrication caused Kristil to fear for her life to the point of carrying a firearm and taking gun safety classes. Her children were also aware of the alleged stalker, and undercover officers were assigned to investigate.

However, evidence showed the ex-boyfriend had a solid alibi and had not left Utah. Everything pointed to Daniel Krug.

The Crime Committed by Daniel Krug

On December 14, after dropping off their kids at school, Kristil returned home and was ambushed in the garage. Daniel Krug struck her with a blunt object and then stabbed her in the heart.

He then tampered with her phone to send fake messages to family members and police, trying to mislead the investigation.

He also disabled the home’s security system and taped over the doorbell camera.

A surveillance camera recorded Krug leaving the house at 8:24 a.m., half an hour later than usual.

He then deactivated his car’s dashcam, bought coffee, and went to his job at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

At noon, he pretended to be worried, sending messages and calling his wife. He eventually called the police to request a welfare check. By the time officers arrived, Kristil was already dead.

Overwhelming Evidence

Prosecutors presented irrefutable evidence: one of the fake email accounts had been created using Daniel Krug’s work network, and his search history included questions such as “How hard do you have to hit someone in the head to knock them out?” and “How long can someone be unconscious without brain damage?”

The trial lasted two weeks. The verdict was clear:

Daniel Krug is guilty on all charges.

The murder conviction carries a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole.

This case has drawn national attention for what it represents in terms of gender-based violence, psychological manipulation, and domestic abuse.
