  • Kennedy Jr. withdraws his candidacy and may join Trump.
  • This possibility gained momentum on social networks.
  • Here are the details.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the independent candidate for the presidency of the United States, will announce this Friday the end of his electoral campaign, according to reports from various American media.

The farewell event will take place in Phoenix, Arizona, and is expected to be accompanied by a significant announcement about his political future.

Speculation about Kennedy’s next steps has intensified, with reports suggesting that the independent candidate might align with Donald Trump.

According to a source close to the negotiations, Kennedy’s team is in talks with Trump’s advisers for the candidate to join the former president’s rally in Phoenix that same night.

The New York Times has confirmed that Kennedy’s decision to drop out of the presidential race is due to funding issues and a decline in his support among voters.

Kennedy’s campaign has avoided offering details about the content of his message, merely announcing that he will address the nation from Arizona.

A recent Washington Post poll shows that Kennedy’s voting intention stands at a modest 5%, compared to 47% for Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate, and 44% for Donald Trump.

These figures reflect the difficulties Kennedy has faced in garnering the electoral support needed to sustain his candidacy.

Kennedy Jr. had launched his campaign in April 2023

Kennedy, 70, had launched his campaign in April 2023 as a candidate in the Democratic primaries, challenging President Joe Biden.

However, with Biden’s withdrawal and the subsequent candidacy of Harris, Kennedy chose to leave the Democratic Party and run as an independent in October last year.

Talks between Kennedy’s and Trump’s teams began before the Republican National Convention held in July.

This turn in Kennedy’s campaign adds a new chapter to a presidential race already marked by his unexpected jump from the Democratic Party to the independent field, and apparently, to a possible collaboration with Trump.
