Perhaps the name Cynthia Karina Moreno Elías doesn’t ring a bell, but the opposite happens when we mention singer Karina.

Originally from Lima, Peru, this actress is now a Venezuelan citizen, as she has called the country home since she was one year old.

Few people know that, in addition to speaking Spanish and English, the singer is fluent in Hebrew.

In recent years, her name resurfaced after she shared that she has a transgender son named Xander.

She supported her son during his transition

According to People en Español, on April 22, 2016 Karina made an unexpected announcement.

The singer revealed that her daughter Hannah, who was born in 2006, told her that she was a man trapped in a woman’s body.

Both she and the father of her two daughters, Marcello Azevedo, supported Hannah during her transition.

Seven years later, Hannah finally became Xander, a full-fledged teenager who inherited his mother’s good looks.

Karina doesn’t hold back

On one occasion, the singer of songs like ‘Y Si Me Dice’, ‘Sé Cómo Duele’, and ‘A Quién’ did not mince words.

«We use the term ‘this is normal’ very lightly. Everyone defines normality as they please and as it suits them.»

On the other hand, Karina  spoke to De Primera Mano about her son Xander’s gender transition with some emotional words.

«May he be a productive person and be happy with himself because that is what matters most. Happiness is so difficult to achieve for anyone.»

Karina’s transgender son is fully supported by his mother

In the same conversation, the Venezuelan singer said that there are many things we confuse with what’s natural.

«God gave him to me just as he is. I have accompanied his journey and will continue to do so until the end of my days.»

Karina also shared that every time her son Xander achieves something, she celebrates it as if it were her own: «I am so happy to see him happy.»

In addition to Xander, the singer has a daughter named Yasha Marcela, who was born in the mid-1990s.

The singer says she has done her best

In another interview, Karina said that we all wish for normal, natural, perfect and healthy children.

«But when you have a privileged child, it seems to be precisely that, someone very extraordinary, very special,» the singer said.

And when no one expected it, with Xander by her side, she said she has done what she could and as far as she could, «which has been quite a lot.»

«I have had to inform, through his transition process, about a transgender boy, and educate a bit because there is still a lot of ignorance.»

Karina’s transgender son has inspired her to speak out for diversity and inclusion

Just a few months ago, Karina gave a new interview where she talked about her transgender son Xander, according to El Universo.

«This is not a movement, it’s not a trend, it’s a human being’s life,» said the Venezuelan singer.

She also stated that it’s a serious matter that requires being well-informed.

Finally, it’s worth noting that the singer released the music video for the song ‘Yo Soy Tu Vicio’ on her YouTube channel last year, which quickly became a hit.
