ICE to Deport Jailed Priest Who Served in the Archdiocese of Baltimore

Jorge Antonio Vélez López, a former priest of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, will be deported after serving his sentence.
The 69-year-old man is serving a nine-year sentence for the sexual abuse of a minor.
The abuses occurred between 2005 and 2009 at the Resurrection of Our Lord parish in Laurel.
The victim reported the incidents in 2016, but authorities did not charge him until 2020.
Jorge Antonio Vélez López moved to Louisiana and fraudulently obtained citizenship
By then, Vélez López had moved to the Archdiocese of Alexandria in Louisiana.
A report by the Attorney General of Maryland revealed that the former priest impregnated the victim in 2010.
During this time, he fraudulently obtained U.S. citizenship.
In 2013, he swore under oath that he had never committed a crime.
Jorge Antonio Vélez López’s sentencing in 2021 showed that he lied during his naturalization process.
As a result, he also faced charges for passport fraud.

A federal judge sentenced him to 12 months in prison and the loss of his citizenship.
Upon completing his sentence, the former priest will be handed over to ICE and deported to Colombia.
Vélez López worked at several parishes in Maryland before his crimes were known.
