Jonathan Linares Lumbreras, owner of the Pollos Asados El Gordo restaurant, was accused in San Antonio, Texas of cocaine trafficking.

According to the indictment, the man agreed to sell cocaine to an undercover federal agent posing as a customer.

The 32-year-old Hispanic was captured by federal agents and taken to a jail to face his criminal trial.

The indictment against Linares Lumbreras reveals the names of Roxane Herrera and Edward Smith as co-defendants in the cocaine trafficking.

In 2021, the United States Department of Justice had already accused Jonathan Linares Lumbreras, known as ‘El Coahuila’, of drug trafficking.

Undercover agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have been investigating the owner of Pollos Asados El Gordo since April 2024.

Through the Threema application, the FBI contacted Jonathan Linares Lumbreras to coordinate the purchase of a stash of cocaine in San Antonio, Texas.

The undercover federal agent exchanged several messages with the restaurateur, agreeing on the details of the drug purchase.

Jonathan Linares Lumbreras agreed with the supposed buyer two deliveries of one and a half kilos each time. The FBI recorded the entire conversation.

The drug delivery was to be made at a McDonald’s restaurant in San Antonio, which the fake buyer and Linares Lumbreras agreed upon.

However, Jonathan did not attend the deliveries but sent his distributor, Edward Smith, to close the deal with the undercover agent.

Throughout the undercover operation, the FBI had the support of the Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS).

The deliveries of cocaine were made in the parking lot of the McDonald’s restaurant, located at the corner of I-35 and Walters Street.

Edward Smith was detained by TxDPS agents as he was driving on the highway to another delivery ordered by his boss, Jonathan Linares Lumbreras.

Prosecutors from the United States Department of Justice and the FBI formally charged Linares Lumbreras on August 7, 2024.

Based on that accusation, the FBI captured Jonathan Linares Lumbreras and charged him with drug trafficking along with Roxane Herrera and Edward Smith.

The DEA in Texas had already detained ‘El Coahuila’

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in 2021 arrested Jonathan Linares Lumbreras along with 12 other people.

DEA agents followed another drug trafficking network in San Antonio, Texas for several months, of which ‘El Coahuila’ was a part.

The arrests allowed the DEA to seize 25 kilos of cocaine, weapons, grenades, bulletproof vests, and hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash.

After that arrest, Jonathan Linares Lumbreras served 20 months in a federal jail and upon release was to be under supervision.

The penalty for the accused could be very severe

When Jonathan Linares Lumbreras ‘El Coahuila’ was captured the second time, he was still under the supervision of the authorities for his previous serious crimes.

Now, according to a source from MundoNOW, ‘El Coahuila’ being a repeat offender for drug trafficking could face a severe penalty of up to 40 years in prison.

The FBI now wants to know who or what organization was supplying the cocaine to Jonathan Linares Lumbras in the US.

As of the writing of this story, a date for the first hearing of the three detainees in San Antonio, Texas has not been set.
