Allegedly, Johan José Martínez Rangel and Franklin Peña deceived Jocelyn Nungaray by asking her to show them the way to a place.

The prosecutor revealed to Judge Josh Hill, of the 232nd District Criminal Court in Harris County, that the men took the victim under a bridge.

Martínez Rangel assured the HPD Homicide Division agents that he only kissed Nungaray, with whom they spent two hours. In his interrogation, Johan José admitted to tying her legs, but Jocelyn Nungaray resisted and bit his arm.

It was Johan José Martínez Rangel who told Franklin Peña to throw the body into the creek to erase evidence of his DNA.

The alleged sexual abuse of Jocelyn Nungaray is the key piece the prosecution will use to seek the death penalty for Johan José Martínez Rangel and Franklin Peña.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences (IFS) doctors are still conducting the autopsy of the body.

If it is proven that Martínez Rangel and Peña sexually abused Jocelyn Nungaray, the case will become very complicated for them.

For now, the official cause of Jocelyn Nungaray’s death is strangulation, although it is not yet known which of the two killed her.

Jocelyn Nungaray’s body was discovered on Monday, June 17, 2024, under a bridge on West Rankin Road in Houston, Texas.

The victim of the brutal crime was naked from the waist down and lying on the water of a shallow creek.

Kim Ogg, Harris County District Attorney, hopes the water did not erase evidence against Martínez Rangel and Peña.

«We hope there is still evidence,» said Kim Ogg about the forensic work, after leaving one of the hearings against the Venezuelans.
