The community mourns the loss of Joe Ramon Janas, affectionately known as «Raymond,» who tragically died in a car accident on Thanksgiving morning while trying to avoid hitting a dog on the road.
The incident happened shortly after midnight on Thursday on Spencer Road near North Eldridge Parkway.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the 27-year-old lost control of his vehicle while swerving to avoid the animal and crashed into a light pole, dying at the scene.
On Sunday night, Raymond’s family held a vigil at the crash site to honor his life and legacy.
Friends and loved ones placed a cross and a sign adorned with photos of Raymond next to the damaged pole, where remnants of the vehicle still remain, as reported by KHOU11.

Joe Ramon Janas was a certified electrician nearing completion of his master’s degree.However, his family emphasizes that beyond his academic and professional achievements, his commitment to others was his most admirable quality.
“He was someone who was always there when you needed him, no matter what,” said his father, Edward Bautista.
His mother, Misty Janas, described him as a loving, helpful, and dependable person: “Anyone who called him for help, he was there.”
Through tears, Misty shared her devastation over losing her son, the third of her seven children. “This shouldn’t happen to mothers. Mothers aren’t supposed to bury their children,” she lamented.

His aunt, Maria Karnezis, noted: “Swerving to avoid hitting a dog shows the kind of person Raymond was.”

Now, they face the painful task of planning his funeral.
