President Joe Biden acknowledged on Tuesday that he «almost fell asleep» during the debate against former President Donald Trump.
He attributed his fatigue to recent travels.
Biden had traveled to Italy for the G7 summit and to France for the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landing.
«I decided to go around the world a couple of times right before the debate.»

«I didn’t listen to my team and then almost fell asleep on stage,» Biden said.
«It’s not an excuse, but an explanation,» he added during a fundraising event in McLean, Virginia.
Biden has been heavily criticized for his performance in the debate.
He projected an aged image, with a hoarse voice and difficulty concluding some of his sentences.
This has increased doubts among voters and members of the Democratic Party about his ability to continue governing.
Especially as he’s facing Trump in the November elections.

The president had a brief participation in the event, which lasted about six minutes.
He expressed that although he regretted his debate performance, it was «crucial» to win the elections.
He was then escorted by his team out of the venue.
The president usually gives longer speeches at such events.
On Monday night, Biden had a short encounter with reporters covering the White House.
He shared his opinion on the Supreme Court’s decision to grant partial immunity to former presidents.

He did not answer questions and did not address what happened during the debate.
Sources close to Biden’s team stated that the president’s hoarseness was due to a cold.
On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre assured that Biden was not taking medication during the debate.
She also rejected claims that the president suffered from Alzheimer’s or any type of dementia.
At 81 years old, Biden is the oldest president in U.S. history.
