  • Joe Biden Defends Hispanics Against Republicans
  • Is it Hispanic heritage or American heritage?
  • Will this lead to controversy?

Joe Biden referred to the «Hispanic heritage», which represents around 19% of the country’s population, as the «heritage» of the United States.

This statement was made during the 46th edition of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) annual gala.

Speaking to an audience of over a thousand people at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., Biden took a jab at members of the Republican Party.

He accuse them of «erasing parts of history» to neglect America’s legacy.

«We are the only country in the world created around the idea that we are all equal and deserve to be treated as such,» said the president.

«We have never forgotten this, unlike our MAGA friends,» Biden said, referring to radical Republicans.

They rally under the acronym of the slogan «Make America Great Again,»

Which was popularized in American politics by Donald Trump during his successful 2016 presidential campaign.

To which he added that «diversity» is «the true strength» of the United States and that the country needs the values of Hispanics.

Because they «have always represented» the ideal of seizing their «opportunities» and «realizing dreams.»

While his speech was received with enthusiasm by those in attendance, it also included another slip-up by the US chief executive.

He mistakenly referred to the CHCI as the Congressional Black Caucus, stating, «The Congressional Black Caucus embodies all of those values,» Biden misspoke.

Expansion of immigration permission

Likewise, the US president referred to Wednesday’s announcement regarding the renewal and expansion of an immigration permit.

This is known as the Temporary Protected Status (TPS), which will allow up to 472,000 Venezuelans to work and reside legally in the US.

This includes those who have been there since July 31, 2023.

«We are significantly expanding the legal avenues of entry so that companies can secure the workers they need,» he mentioned.

«I have also directed my team to make historic increases in the number of refugees from Latin America,» Biden said.

He again took aim at the «MAGA» crowd for their perspective on American immigration policy.

«MAGA Republicans spent four years gutting the immigration system under my predecessor.»

«Today, they continue to undermine our border security,» stated the President of the United States.

The US president also discussed his economic policies, popularly known as «Bidenomics.»

He highlighted that 4 million of the 13.5 million jobs created during his term have been filled by Hispanics.

«In addition, there has been an increase in the number of Latinos accessing health insurance by almost 1 million,» he said.

«And thus, the gap in access to prescription medications for elderly Latinos is closing,» Biden emphasized.

This Thursday’s gala is part of Hispanic Heritage Month, which continues until October 15 in Washington.

According to EFE, the contributions of Latin Americans in the United States were celebrated at the event.

A non-partisan, non-profit Hispanic association promotes leadership among its new generation of young people.

Additionally, it presents the Medallion Award for Excellence, one of the most prestigious awards recognizing professional achievement and service to the Latino community.
