According to the Wall Street Journal, Iran may have been involved in Hamas’s attack on Israel.

The outlet noted that members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard had helped plan the attack since August and had even given the green light for its start.

They reported that the details were refined in meetings held in Beirut between Iranian officials, members of Hamas and representatives of Hezbollah, a group that operates in Lebanon.

However, the United States government has stated that there is no evidence of Iran’s alleged involvement in Saturday’s unprecedented attack, according to EFE.

«We have not yet seen evidence that Iran directed or was behind this particular attack,» US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told CNN on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army combed the southern part of the country on Monday in search of Hamas fighters, monitoring gaps in its border fence.

It attacked the Gaza Strip from the air, while imposing a total siege on the impoverished Hamas-controlled territory after an unprecedented incursion over the weekend.

More than 48 hours after Hamas launched its surprise attack from Gaza, the army said the fighting had virtually ended for the moment.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised to destroy “the military and governance capacity” of the armed group, which is deeply rooted in Gaza.

While Israel hit more than 1,000 targets in Gaza and its tanks and drones monitored gaps in the border fence to prevent further infiltrations.

Palestinian militia continued to fire rounds of rockets that set off air raid sirens in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, according to The Associated Press.

According to the outlet, civilians have already paid a high price, with at least 700 people dead in Israel, while almost 500 people were killed in Gaza.

According to The Associated Press, Israeli Defense Minister Yoay Gallant ordered a «total siege» on Gaza, saying authorities would cut off electricity.

In addition to preventing the entry of food and fuel. Israel and Egypt have maintained varying levels of blockade on Gaza since Hamas seized power from the territory in 2007.

After 48 hours of fighting in Israel, Army spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said Israel was «in control» of its border towns.

He noted that 15 of 24 border towns had been evacuated, and the rest were expected to be evacuated in the following 24 hours.

According The Associated Press Israel said their air strikes had devastated a good part of the population of Beit Hanoun.

This is in the northeast corner of the enclave that, according to Daniel Hagari, the Hamas group used to launch attacks. At first there was no information on the number of victims.

The Daily Mail reports that thousands of  Israeli soldiers are preparing to launch a massive ground assault within the «next 48 hours,» according to US authorities.

This is in order to destroy Hamas fighters and infrastructure in Gaza, to completely strip Hamas of its power to govern in Palestine.
