The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that fighter jets attacked the Beirut area, killing Muhammad Rashid Shafi, head of Hezbollah’s communications network.
Shafi, a veteran Hezbollah terrorist, served as the head of the group’s communications system since 2000 and was close to the organization’s leaders.
The Israeli military stated that Shafi had significant experience and authority within Hezbollah, focusing on maintaining a continuous flow of information between the group’s units.
Shafi’s death comes after Israel announced it had killed around 100 Hezbollah militants in southern Lebanon in a single day.
These militants were killed during airstrikes and ground combat between Israeli soldiers and Hezbollah members.
So far, nine Israeli soldiers have died in these confrontations, which began with ground operations in southern Lebanon last Tuesday.
The Israeli military stated that the soldiers had conducted raids against Hezbollah command centers in civilian villages.
“In the past 24 hours, the troops have discovered rocket-launching munitions, anti-tank missiles, and rockets inside a residence,” the armed forces added.
They also reported finding the weapons cache next to a bed in a room displaying a portrait of former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
