This time, we present five inventions you didn’t know were created by Hispanics. You can’t even imagine what they are.

According to information from the Voice of America portal, the majority of patents in the top 10 U.S. universities belong to immigrants.

Seventy-six percent of the patents in these educational institutions belong to individuals born in countries other than the United States.

Color TV, Originating from Mexico

Hailing from Arandas, Jalisco, Mexico, Guillermo González Camarena is remembered for inventing color television.

This engineer developed the system in the 1930s and applied for the patent in 1940.

Moreover, in that same year, he created the Sequential Trichromatic Field System (STSC) to broadcast color TV worldwide.

Few people know that he is the founder, in 1952, of Channel 5 in Mexico City, which bears his initials (XHGC) and is still on the air today.

Father of Modern Aviation

When you think of the person who invented the airplane, the names Wilbur and Orville Wright immediately come to mind.

However, the title of the «father of modern aviation» belongs to Santos Dumont, who was born in Brazil in 1873.

It was on October 23, 1906, three years after the Wright Brothers’ feat, that Dumont entered the history books.

Santos became the first person to take off in an aircraft powered by an aeronautical engine. He flew almost 60 meters at an altitude of 3 meters.

A Great Help for the Heart

One of the inventions that has saved countless lives in human history was created by a Hispanic: the external artificial pacemaker.

Previously, it was a massive device that a person had to wear on the outside of their body, like an accessory.

Jorge Reynolds, a native of Bogotá, Colombia, is the creator of the world’s first intravenous pacemaker. It came to light in 1958.

To date, approximately 50 million people worldwide have used it. What’s next? The nanominiaturized pacemaker, much smaller and lighter.

Who’s Behind the Birth Control Pill?

Hailing from Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico, Luis Ernesto Miramontes is the person behind this original creation.

When he was 26 years old, Miramontes synthesized norethisterone, the essential component of the birth control pill.

It didn’t take long for norethisterone to be considered one of the most important molecules in history. No one could have imagined it.

A Great Ally for Your ‘Mouse’

To wrap up, we present one of the inventions you probably weren’t aware was created by a Hispanic: the mousepad.

According to information from the Digital Trends portal, Armando M. Fernández invented it and gave it this name in 1979.

His aim was to provide more speed and precision to the mouse while making it more comfortable to use.

Steve Jobs (f) in 1982 launched his first computers for sale, which included a mouse and the mousepad invented by Armando M. Fernández.
