U.S. Democratic Congressman Shri Thanedar has decided not to force a vote on his impeachment resolution against Donald Trump in the House of Representatives.
The decision comes after a lack of support within his own party, which believes this is not the right moment to move forward with the initiative.
Thanedar had planned to request that his resolution be treated as “privileged,” which would have required Republicans to bring the measure to the floor within two legislative days.
However, growing opposition from fellow Democrats and concern that the process might distract from other key issues—such as executive budget cuts—led him to temporarily back off his plan.

“After speaking with many colleagues, I’ve decided not to force a vote today,” Thanedar stated on social media platform X.
“Instead, I will expand my articles of impeachment and continue building support from Democrats and Republicans to stand up for the Constitution with me,” he added.

The 70-year-old congressman, originally from India, was the first to launch the impeachment process by filing charges against Trump on April 28.
Thanedar noted that in the two weeks since then, the former president has committed further actions justifying his removal, including an alleged plan to accept a private jet from Qatar for use as Air Force One.

“This isn’t about one person or one party; it’s about defending the United States, our Constitution, and the rule of law,” the lawmaker stated.
Thanedar affirmed that he will continue to pursue all legal avenues to hold Trump accountable for his alleged crimes.
The charges brought by Thanedar include obstruction of justice, abuse of power, and violation of the First Amendment of the Constitution.
He also criticized the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by Elon Musk, for its handling of federal budget cuts.
Backlash Unleashed
Despite criticism from within his own party, Shri Thanedar remains steadfast in his belief that the impeachment process is necessary.
In previous statements to EFE, the congressman declared that “Trump is trampling democracy” and denying citizens due process.
Though the chances of success were slim from the beginning, the impeachment process in the House and a possible trial in the Republican-controlled Senate face significant obstacles.
Nevertheless, Thanedar remains convinced that it is only a matter of time before lawmakers act in accordance with the will of the people.
