The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) began Donald Trump’s term with a decisive action.

On the first full day under his administration, Tuesday, authorities detained 308 immigrants deemed «serious criminals.»

This information was confirmed on Wednesday by Tom Homan, known as the «border czar» in the new government.

«Some of them were rapists, others murderers, some had abused children. ICE is doing its job.»

«He is prioritizing, just as the president said he would. He is doing an excellent job on the ground and will continue to do so every day,» he indicated on Fox News.

However, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), responsible for immigration laws, has not yet issued additional details about these detentions.

Donald Trump took office on Monday and immediately established his tough stance on immigration issues.

On his first day in office, he signed a «national emergency» declaration at the border with Mexico.

With this measure, he authorized the deployment of military forces to reinforce border security and combat what he described as «forms of invasion,» including irregular migration and drug trafficking.

The signed document also establishes a clear order: individuals entering the country irregularly will be deported immediately.

«At the moment we are focusing on the worst,» Homan said on Fox News.

Pointing out that these are individuals who pose a threat to national or public security and emphasizing that there cannot be «strong» national security if the border is not secure.

Trump indicated that he aims to restore «expedited removals,» a practice that has sparked controversy for not allowing due process for migrants.

Trump’s campaign promises included carrying out the largest deportation of migrants in the history of the United States.

With these initial actions, the president appears to be fulfilling his commitments, according to Efe.

However, the lack of detailed information from DHS leaves many questions open about the procedures and the rights of the detainees.

The migrant community faces an uncertain outlook in light of Trump’s mass arrests that reinforce the new government’s zero-tolerance policy.

The actions of ICE and DHS are expected to spark debates both within and outside the country.
