The human remains of a 16-year-old girl, missing since 2005, have been found in a freezer by a person who was about to collect the appliance, according to local authorities.

The discovery took place on January 12 on the 2900 block of Pinyon Avenue in Grand Junction, approximately 240 miles west of Denver.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a «suspicious incident» that led officers to the scene.

Upon arrival, they found the head and hands of a person inside the freezer.

After nine months of investigation, authorities were able to identify the victim as Amanda Leariel Overstreet through DNA testing.

Amanda, who was last seen in April 2005, was the biological daughter of the former owner of the home where the remains were found.

Surprisingly, there is no record of Amanda ever being reported missing, which has led investigators to continue looking into the circumstances of her disappearance and its connection to the homicide case.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office clarified that the house where the discovery was made now belongs to a new owner, who is completely unrelated to the previous case.

«We ask that the privacy of the new owner and their neighbors be respected, and that people avoid approaching the property or taking photographs,» authorities emphasized.
