If you’re not in the path of totality, or if clouds obstruct your view, you can still witness the total solar eclipse via the internet.

Weather permitting, tens of millions of people will be able to simply look up to the sky on Monday, April 8th, to see it.

This way, they can observe how the day darkens as the Moon blocks the Sun, as reported by The Associated Press.

But only those living along the narrow strip stretching from the Mexican Pacific coast to eastern Canada will be able to witness it in its full splendor.

Special glasses are mandatory to prevent any eye damage, according to The Associated Press.

The only safe moment to remove the glasses is during totality, or the few minutes of absolute darkness.

Below are some alternatives in case of cloudy skies during the eclipse or if you couldn’t travel to a location within the path of totality.

NASA will broadcast live from different cities

NASA will offer several hours of internet streaming and through NASA TV starting at 1 p.m. Eastern Time from various cities located along the path of totality.

The space agency will showcase telescopic images of the Sun and feature participation from scientists and astronauts aboard the International Space Station.

During the eclipse, small rockets will be launched from Wallops Island, Virginia, equipped with scientific instruments.

These telescopes will be directed towards the electronically charged portion of the atmosphere near the edges of space, known as the ionosphere.

Associated Press journalists will travel to various points along the path where the eclipse will be total.

This is to provide live coverage of the celebrations and related events.

The live broadcast by AP will begin at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time, with footage from Mazatlán, Mexico, and other locations.

Commentary will be provided from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., including interviews with organizers, scientists, and live shots.

Telescopes and experiments

The Exploratorium museum will feature live telescopic images of the Sun from Junction, Texas, and Torreón, Mexico.

Researchers and students from the University of Maine will launch atmospheric balloons as part of an experiment that will be broadcasted from the stratosphere.

Time and Date will showcase images of the Sun from various telescope viewpoints.

Slooh will broadcast from Texas and will have a network of allied telescopes along the path.
