How to Lose Weight Fast After the Holidays

After the inevitable holiday weight gain you want to know how to lose weight fast. It’s actually not as far out of reach as you think. You may feel like you’ve gained 10 pounds since November but most people usually only put on a pound or two over the holidays. It becomes a problem when those annual pounds start adding up. So think positive and realize that shedding a few pounds is a totally attainable goal.

your chances for success are better with a buddy. A recent University of South Wales study found that we tend to eat the same amount as whoever we’re dining with. Associate Professor Lenny Vartanian of the UNSW School of Psychology explains, «The research shows that social factors are a powerful influence on consumption. When the companion eats very little, people suppress their food intake and eat less than they normally would if alone.» We know you can’t eat every meal with your diet buddy but luckily this concept works remotely too! Associate Professor Vartanian goes on to say, «It even occurs when the companion is not physically present and diners are simply given a written indication of what that other person ate.»

BEAT THE BLOAT

It’s a no-brainer that cutting calories and upping exercise are key for weight loss but that alone isn’t necessarily how to lose weight fast. All of that holiday feasting probably included more sugar, salt and alcohol than you normally consume. And all of those things can cause as much as five pounds of water retention. And that is five pounds you can lose in a day by drinking plenty of water, exercising to sweat it out and drinking natural diuretics like green tea or coffee. Bonus! Both beverages also amp up your metabolism.

CUT CARBS

One thing holiday food is not — low carb. Cutting simple carbs like sugar, white breads and pasta is an excellent way to lose weight fast. However, you can gain it back even more quickly if you fall off the wagon so don’t just go cold turkey. Follow a realistic plan, like carb cycling. Carb cycling alternates high and low carb days and has been shown to increase weight loss as well as improving long-term success in keeping the pounds off.
