It’s a wound that will never heal. Just a few days away from the twenty-second anniversary of attacks on 9/11, there are more questions than answers.

To this day, many wonder how many people were killed on September 11, 2001.

What seemed like an ordinary day in the United States turned into a nightmare and no one could have imagined what would happen.

Even though it was before social media, the news quickly spread around the world.

It’s important to remember that on the morning of September 11, 2001, a total of four planes were hijacked by 19 Al-Qaeda terrorists.

While two of them crashed into the Twin Towers, another one struck the Pentagon and one more eventually crashed in Pennsylvania.

A total of 2,753 people died in the World Trade Center attack, although as of September 2022, 40% of the victims remained unidentified.

In 2021, two more people were identified: Dorothy Morgan and a victim whose family chose not to reveal the name.

According to Diario AS, 2,977 people died as a result of the attacks on 9/11.

In the Pentagon, located in the nation’s capital, Washington, DC, 184 people were killed.

As for what happened in Pennsylvania, 40 passengers and crew members, including the terrorists, died.

The passengers and crew on that plane prevented a greater tragedy by fighting the terrorists and trying to regain control of the aircraft.

An important aspect that is often overlooked are the individuals who were killed on September 11 while trying to rescue survivors of the attacks.

Sadly, 343 firefighters from the New York City Fire Department died at the World Trade Center.

Also, 23 officers from the New York Police Department lost their lives that day.

Finally, we remember the 37 officers from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. May they rest in peace.

Some believe that more than 6,000 people actually died in the September 11, 2001 attacks.

If this number is accurate, it would be more than double the confirmed deaths. In any case, it is an absolute tragedy.

It should be noted that nearly 10,000 fragments of unidentified bones and tissue were collected for testing.

As of 2021, the remains of over a thousand people have yet to be identified. It seems this nightmare is far from over.
