Angelina Belinda Calderón faces charges
The couple appeared in a Harris County court on the morning of Monday, April 22. Angelina Belinda Calderón is charged with serious injury to a child-serious bodily injury.
Judge Natalina Cornelio, of the 351st Criminal District Court in Harris County, will oversee Angelina Belinda Calderón and Fernando Vega’s trial.
The incident is being investigated by the Houston Police Department (HPD).
The tragedy began on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at 2107 Linden Creek Way.
Fernando Vega was also arrested
That day, at 11:15 in the morning, 911 was called to the home in southeast Houston.
Paramedics from the Houston Fire Department (HFD) responded.
However, when they arrived at the scene, they discovered there was nothing they could do and the twins were declared dead at the scene.
Paramedics requested the presence of HPD to investigate the case, while an autopsy was performed on the daughters of Angelina Belinda Calderón and Fernando Vega.
The infants had several injuries
Doctors from the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences (IFS) revealed the true tragedy in the case.
According to the IFS autopsy, Massail and Mirena Vega had suffered several serious injuries.
The HFD paramedics had found the babies looking very pale on a couch in the home, and they appeared to have many bruises.
X-rays showed multiple fractures of one of the infant’s femur, clavicle and ribs.

Based on these injuries, the HPD Homicide Division decided to separately interview Angelina Belinda Calderón and Fernando Vega.
Fernando Vega told investigators that the babies were very restless the entire night before, until he put them in a crib.
Angelina Belinda Calderón said that when she woke up that day she saw the girls asleep and did not wake them up before she left for work.
Allegedly, Fernando took Angelina to work and left the babies in the care of one of their grandmothers.
